MY WORK

The Pieces of My Career

Rosary was the first story I ever published. It was shortlisted for the Hennessy Literary Awards and published in the Sunday Tribune in 1995. You can read Rosary in full Here.

The Soldier's Song was very nearly the last story I ever wrote. Seven years since I'd last had anything published, I had made up my mind to pack in this writing lark. I decided that I'd just finish off this story and then I'd go off and try my hand at something else. Little did I know that the story I sent off would change my life. The Soldier's Song was shortlisted for the Hennessy Literary Awards and published in the Sunday Tribune. It then went on to win the Emerging Fiction prize and also the overall Hennessy Award for 2002. You can read The Soldier's Song in full Here.

The Roadmenders is a story I wrote while I was putting the finishing touches to my First Novel. It is a retelling of the death of Francis Ledwidge - Ireland's Great War Poet, who was killed near Ypres in 1917. It was shortlisted for the Michael McLaverty Short Story Award in 2008. Read it Here.
